Do you know someone who has demonstrated a strong commitment to social justice by working directly withimmigrants or

refugees to improve the quality of their lives, or to integrate them into the mainstream community?

  • Do you know someone who has worked as a liaison between immigrants or refugees and the government or nonprofit organizations who provide services?

IF SO, WE WANT TO KNOW!

Please consider nominating that person for the Social Justice in Action Award, an honor presented annually by the Section on Democracy and Social Justice (DSJ) of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA.)

The Annual Conference of ASPA, scheduled for March 11-15, 2011 in Baltimore, MD, has a theme of "Public Administration Without Borders," and as part of the conference, the DSJ will recognize and present an award to an outstanding individual in the local Baltimore/Washington area who has demonstrated social justice through their direct service to immigrants or refugees.

The individual may be an employee of a government or nonprofit agency, a community organizer, or a volunteer. The individual may have made a difference by virtue of the number of immigrants or refugees they have served, or the extent of  personal commitment they have demonstrated with a small number of immigrants or refugees.

This award is designed to recognize an individual specifically within the Greater Baltimore/DC Metropolitan Area, or within the state of Maryland.

To nominate a deserving individual, please send a 1-2 page summary of the individual's activities and accomplishments, along with complete contact information for the nominator and the nominee (name, address, phone number, and email address). The award recipient must attend the ASPA conference award luncheon in Baltimore on Sunday, March 13, 2011 to receive the award. (While there is no honorarium for the recipient, travel expenses and lunch will be provided.)
